Background

Sri Lanka is a beautiful island located off the southeast coast of India. It is a home to great racial, religious, and cultural diversity. Sri Lanka has a population of 22.8 million of which 15.4 % are ethnic Tamils living predominantly in the North, East and Central regions of the island

After three decades of civil war, the Tamils who bore the brunt of the war are trying to establish themselves in their homeland. The children of the Tamils faced constant displacement and lived in camps. Many children have lost both parents or live in a single parent household. In addition, currently Sri Lanka is facing one of its worst ever economic crisis. The impact of this condition is severe on the poor.

Goal

One of the main goals of WSSTA is to provide educational aid to the underprivileged Tamil children.

WSSTA firmly believes, that by sponsoring these students, it can play a significant role in their future life.

What are we doing?

In an effort to help the needy children to cope with the trauma of the war and focus on their studies, WSSTA sponsors through two local organizations. The sponsored students are monitored, guided, and counseled by volunteers selected to help in the process. The cost of sponsoring a student range from $ 250 to $400 per year. However, the need is greater than our current resources.

Contribution towards sponsorship

Quality education is a powerful catalyst that can pull the children out of the cycle of poverty. WSSTA strives to reach out to make a difference in the lives of Tamil children in Sri Lanka.

Contributions towards this worthy cause through WSSTA are Tax deductible. We welcome you all to make a difference in the lives of these the children.
