Goal

The primary goal of this project was to reduce the center's operational costs while providing reliable, sustainable energy. Additionally, the project creates a new revenue stream by selling surplus energy back to the grid, with funds directed to support the students' educational needs and overall well-being.

Project Overview & Impact

The solar installation at Good Shepard Child Development Center in Mankulam, Jaffna provides reliable, clean energy for the center's daily operations. The system reduces electricity costs by about RS 50,000 per month, and surplus generation sold back to the grid generates an additional RS 25,000–50,000 monthly. This income is reinvested in the center’s programs and facility upkeep.

These savings and revenues fund extra classes, learning materials, meals, and essential maintenance—directly improving students' educational opportunities and well-being. Beyond financial benefits, the project lowers the center's carbon footprint and serves as a practical example of sustainable, community-focused development.
